What We Do

We study the cell biology of the retina to develop novel surgical and pharmaceutical approaches to gene therapy for patients suffering from Inherited Retinal Disease.  Our lab utilizes a variety of pre-clinical approaches.

Who We Are

We are a driven group of scientists, physicians, and students focussed on bringing the hope of vision to patients suffering from Inherited Retinal Disease.

Where We Work

We conduct our research in the beautiful OSU Peletonia Research Center, embedded within the OSU Gene Therapy Institute and down the hall from our Vision Research collaborators.

About Us

Our laboratory combines novel molecular gene therapy and vitreoretinal surgical techniques in pre-clinical models to investigate gene-agnostic approaches to expand inherited retinal disease treatments to more of Tom's patients.

About Tom Mendel, MD PhD

Tom is retina surgeon scientist who treats both adult and pediatric patients with retinal disease at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.  He investigates novel surgical and pharmaceutical approaches to bring new treatments to the many patients he sees with inherited retinal disease.
